– Serbia, women, fairy tale, , women´s lib, performance
Every Myth begins with: “once upon a time…” Once upon a time there were five woman, six or maybe two or ten. 2014, Novi Sad, Serbia. As if the earth had swallowed the women after the reign of the mens had come over the forested mountains, treaded down shrubs and bushes and occupied the valleys. Where have all the young girls gone? Some telling about the winds which brought them to the west but others believe that the women lives as animals between the humans. Who are these women and why they have to be undercover?
I wanna tell a modern serbian story Inspired from the motives of the serbian folktales (1874) from Vuk Stephanović Karadžić in which the women changed often into animals. She creep througth the nights and sleep by day. With pussyfoots unseen in the crowd of people. This story tells about oppression and freedom, from the facets of womanhood, the tenderness love and secret kisses in Novi Sad. The Photo series “black cat and white cat” ( in german there is a difference between male an female cats, so the german tittle describes only the female cats and its not the tittle of the movie by Emir Kusturica) should respond the actual role of the homosexual women in a fairy tale. Humans and cultures tells myths since thousand of years to show their comprehension of the world and the things around. What does it means to love the same gender? What does it mean to despise somebody for something he or she feels? A combination of documentary and staged photography should gives the women a voice and bring old traditions in the context of the 21. century.
